A Texas Winery with Roots in the Birthplace of Texas

Our mission at Retreat Hill Winery & Vineyard is to create elegant wines, in a relaxed country setting, inspired by the pioneers who founded Texas.
The town of Retreat was established in 1851, two miles east of Groce's Retreat along the Houston to Fanthorp (Anderson) stage coach route. The Texas Declaration of Independence was drafted at by George C. Childress at Groce's Retreat in 1836 and the document was later ratified at Washington-On-The-Brazos on March 02, 1836. Between March 18 and March 21, 1836, Groce’s Retreat served as the temporary capital of the Republic of Texas.
Retreat Hill Winery & Vineyard is located about 0.5 miles from the site where Retreat, Texas once stood and about 2.5 miles from the historical marker at Groce's Retreat
